    Installation Notes

    Handle the drum unit with care. Avoid touching the drum surface or exposing it to direct light — even small amounts of skin oil or debris can cause print-quality issues. Keep it in its packaging, away from direct light, until you are ready to fit it.

    1. Power off the printer and disconnect from the mains.
    2. Open the access panel and remove the toner cartridge to reach the drum.
    3. Remove the old drum unit and fit the new one, avoiding contact with the drum surface.
    4. Refit the toner cartridge and close all panels.
    5. Power on. If your model tracks drum life, reset the drum counter via the printer menu so the warning clears.

    What's the difference between the drum and the toner?

    The toner (Samsung MLT-D116) is the black powder that's printed onto the page and is replaced most often. The drum (MLT-R116) transfers that toner to the paper and lasts much longer — around 9,000 pages. When prints show repeating marks or ghosting even after a new toner, it's usually the drum that needs replacing.

    Do I need to reset anything after fitting?
