Brother FAX-2840 / FAX-2940 Not Feeding Paper - Received Faxes Won't Print

When the Brother FAX-2840 or FAX-2940 stops feeding paper, received faxes will not print, copies will not run, and the display shows “No Paper” with a full tray. On these machines the cause is almost always the feeder cam lever (LY2579001) that engages the pick-up roller — the same feed part used across Brother’s 2200 and 7000 mono range. It is a cheap, common fix, and it gets your incoming faxes printing again.

What is happening inside

The LY2579001 cam lever drops the pick-up roller onto the top sheet for every page. If it slips off its shaft or snaps — often after the tray is pushed in hard — the roller never turns, so no paper is drawn in. The fax then behaves as if the tray is empty: incoming faxes are held in memory instead of printing, and copies will not run. Worn pick-up rollers and a glazed separation pad add misfeeds on top.

Why are my received faxes not printing on the FAX-2840?

If the feed parts are worn the machine cannot pull a sheet from the tray, so it treats the tray as empty and holds incoming faxes in memory rather than printing them. Restoring the feed — usually the cam lever and rollers — lets stored faxes print again.

Do the FAX-2840 and FAX-2940 use the same part?

Will fixing the feed clear a memory-full warning too?
