Brother HL-2240 Pulling Two Sheets at Once, or Jamming as It Feeds?

When the HL-2240 grabs two or more sheets together, or feeds part-way and then jams, the separation pad has worn smooth and can no longer hold the sheets underneath back. Only the top sheet should feed — when the pad loses its grip, extra sheets slip through with it, and that’s what causes the double-feeds and the jams at the tray.

What’s happening inside

Two parts share the feed on the HL-2240: the pickup roller grips the top sheet and pulls it in, and the separation pad holds everything beneath it back so only one sheet goes through. As the pad glazes over it stops gripping, so a second or third sheet rides through on top of the first — a double-feed — and often stalls half-fed as a jam. A worn pickup roller adds missed pickups, and a slipped feeder cam lever (part LY2579001) brings on the “No Paper” error on top.
